German Audio Engineering History
The history of the German Audio Engineering brand dates back to the mid-1980s. It was a fortunate circumstance that brought together two German engineers(Michael Staats and Aelx) with different interests in professional audio. One of them turned his hobby into a profession and started to develop powerful passive loudspeaker speaker systems, while the other brought in a profound knowledge in electronics and designed control electronics to protect these speaker systems. These products found their way almost immediately into the professional audio world and were very soon used regionally for the music festivals organized in that times. This local success soon spread to other German manufacturers with the result that the newly founded company received design orders for control electronics and loudspeaker systems for other manufacturers. German Audio Engineering brought innovations to market in rapid succession during the 1990s. Among them were passive crossovers with highest power handling and on board protection systems, the world's first digital loudspeaker controller with IIR and FIR filter technology, the German Audio Engineering DSC28, as well as the forerunner of today's widely used fiber optic audio transmission system. And as well loudspeaker products like German Audio Engineering Director where defining new precision standards for large fullrange hornloaded systems. Nowerdays German Audio Engineering focusses on rational and economic top professional products. The products are characterized by longevity and long term investment security for the user. This is true for all German Audio Engineering products and we do not make any difference in design quality in concern to application. German Audio Engineering - Made in Germany since 1987,and established the "DAL" professional audio brand at the same time.
Development History
Continuous innovation, the courage to pursue, and the best service to customers will not be forgotten by the world.
  • 1985, The companies opal Sound Repro and Musikbetrieb merged into opal audio vertrieb GmbH.
  • 1987, Opal audio vertrieb GmbH relocated to Ahrensburg, Germany and renamed German audio engineering, and established the "DAL" professional audio brand at the same time.
  • 1991, Serial production of DAL modular-I: Breakthrough concerning the acceptance of passive high-performance crossovers in the pro-audio-market.
  • 1993, Relocation to Werther/Westfalia into more generous accommodations which became necessary due to an enlargement of the production- and administration-capacities in the course of international cooperation and an increased product acceptance.
  • 1995, DAL-ProStage-Monitors set new benchmarks on stage: efficiency, assertiveness and the exceptionally high audibility form the basis of a bestseller.
  • 1996, Access to digital signal-processing thereby factoring FIR-filter-technology into the audio-signal-processing.
  • 1998, DAL-Director-Series is launched, a new standard in performance and dispersion of professional speaker-systems is defined.
  • 2000, Access to the development and production of new technologies in the range of optical wave-guide-multicore-systems.
  • 2002, Development of the High Efficiency Crossover Design: all-pass-filtered and time-aligning passive crossovers in the DAL-System-Series for higher flexibility and tonal adaptation, material to the superior installation sector.
  • 2003, Concentration on the development of loudspeaker systems, spin-off of the wave-guide-multicore project, initiation of the conceptual design of a line-array-system.
  • 2005, Development and evaluation of the prototype of the DAL-Director-Line-Array-System.
  • 2006, DAL-Director-Waveline-System reaches maturity phase, BGV-C1-certification of the flight-mechanics.
  • 2009, DAL-Director-Waveline-PT-System reaches maturity phase, BGV-C1-certification of the flight-mechanics.
  • 2015, DAL has become a leader in professional audio in the European and American markets.
  • 2020, In response to the global layout, DAL officially entered the Asian market.

Cardioid Line Array Technology

Happy on and in front of the stage

This is one of DAL's principles: sound should only go where it is wanted. Backward sound is effectively suppressed in cardioid mode, ensuring quiet on stage and precise forward dispersion. The musicians are happy about undisturbed monitoring, the sound engineer about clean microphone signals and the audience about rich, direct sound.

Noise reduction
Rock the crowd, not the neighbours
▪ Quiet stage(makes new friends in monitor world)
▪ Less excitation of reverberant field
▪ Easier horizontal arraying
▪ Much less off-axis noise immission
